Day 2…. Hike to a thermal river! 1 hour and 5 mins of hiking, but it was soooo worth it! Relaxed in a thermal river which also had glacial waters intersecting in spots so we could find a nice warm or cool spot depending on what we wanted. We realized mommy loves the hot water, Fin, Cheetah and Daddy like the warm-ish water and Nans loves the cool waters. No wonder Nans can ski jump all night long in below freezing temps!
Steve and I got to go for a run together in the small town we’re in, Laugarvatn. It’s a beautiful little place nestled against the mountains with a lake. We’re staying at the Historic Heradsskolinn Guesthouse. It’s really like a nice hostel. We have a room with 2 bunks and 2 singles (sleeps 6). Bathrooms and showers are separate and shared. We haven’t had any problems getting a shower or using the restrooms when we wanted to. Only kinda annoying thing is following our kids when they want to use the bathroom, but good experience overall. The food here has been great as well. Finley has decided he loves fish (thank God!). Mr. Mac and cheese has finally decided to eat something real. We had serious doubts about his ability to adjust to foods outside of Chicken Nuggies and Mac. But so far so good!
The pics by the lake have a natural hot spring right on the water. You can actually see boiling water right by the lake. Yesterday as we were walking by, a tour group was digging in the hot pot area. They pulled out what appeared to be a leg of lamb from the hot boiling lake water!!! They said it was their dinner! Reading the signs, they also have used this hot pot idea to bake bread, an Icelandic Tradition. Wow!
